1890s Photos of Stanley Park Entrance & View of Fairview Slopes Across to False Creek, Vancouver, BC
Vancouver, BC: N. Caple & Co., [1890s]. Mounted Photograph. Two circa 1890s photographs (measuring 7.25 x 9.25 inches wide, mounted onto an album leaf measuring 9.75 x 11.75 inches wide) one photo is captioned in the negative along it's bottom edge "Entrance to Stanley Park, Vancouver, B.C." and "N. Caple & Co. Photo. Vancouver, B.C.", the other photo is uncaptioned and uncredited, but captures an early, stump-filled view from Vancouver's Fairview Slopes looking across False Creek towards downtown and the North Shore mountains. Both photos are significantly faded with an angular, sympathetic tide line moisture stain affecting both sides, album leaf w. edge wear, soil and stains. Thus fair only and priced accordingly. Fair Only. Item #5578
The Stanley Park entrance photo has two warning signs noticeable on either side of the cedar stump foundations of the entranceway, just before crossing the bridge, stating "Notice. All persons driving along this bridge are required not to exceed a walking pace." and on the left side "Notice. Any person found shooting, cutting timber, or lighting fires within this Park shall be prosecuted according to the law. By order of the Park Commissioners." Beware.
