Montreal, QC: William Notman & Son, 1887. Mounted Photograph. Date of 1887 from the Notman Photographic Archives at McCord, who hold a glass plate negative of this image. CPR completed the transcontinental railway in 1885 and employed the Notman studio to photograph the countryside along the newly completed railway. This helped to solicit large groups of wealthy customers into seeing world class tourist attractions via their railway. A gelatin POP photograph, measuring 7 x 9.25 inches wide, mounted onto a Notman Studio Imperial Cabinet Card, measuring 8 x 10 inches wide. Mount is slightly curved, photo has some minor rubs and fading. Near Fine. Item #5499
As head of the CPR, William Van Horne famously stated "Since we can't export the scenery, we will have to import the tourists." Views such as this helped them to achieve that goal.
