[Kootenay Ghost Town] Poplar Creek Goldfields : The Latest Mining Sensation

Nelson, BC: The Daily News, [1903]. Paperback. Published in Nelson, BC, Canada, to promote the west Kootenay Goldfields of Poplar Creek and the new city of Poplar, during that seminal time in which both the goldfields, and Poplar City, were just being established. We found no other contemporarily published, descriptive illustrated works, that were intended for use as a stand alone promotional booklet for either Poplar City, or the goldfields. Saddle stapled, printed card wraps, narrow 8vo size (8 inches tall), pp. 40 w. a full page map of the Poplar Creek area (we note that Sandon has been named and marked with an "X" in black fountain pen ink on the map, between New Denver and Kaslo), many period ads and photo reproductions found throughout. Volume covers w. some fading to edges and a small stain at upper left corner of upper cover, a dog ear chip torn from upper corner of first leaf, else clean and unmarked. A beautiful copy of an early, Kootenay Goldfield promotional booklet. Near Fine. Item #5462

A rare find, issued in 1903 by the "The Business Men of Nelson B.C." and The Daily News of Nelson, who sent a man into the Poplar Creek Gold Fields in August, 1903 to obtain the first report in the booklet. The second report in the booklet is an exclusive on Nelson, B.C. Both reports are accompanied by numerous photos, including five full page photo ads on the Hume Hotel, featuring the Rotunda, Drawing Room, Hotel Exterior, Dining Room and Main Stairway.
