[Hudson's Bay Co.] Typed Letter Commending Builder on Completion of HBC Flagship Vancouver Store in 1915

Vancouver, BC: Hudson's Bay Company, 1915. Single Sheet. An original, retained copy of a letter typed onto HBC letterhead paper, bearing the watermark "Crane's 1913 Japanese Linen" and sent by the Hudson's Bay Company Stores Commissioner, H.E. Burbidge, to J.E. McDonald of Rourke, McDonald & Moncrieff, in 1915 just after the successful completion of the new HBC Vancouver store. Wherein, the sender acknowledges the completion of their contract and states "... that your firm (Messrs Rourke, McDonald and Moncrieff) have carried out the work on the building proper to our entire satisfaction, that we are satisfied that it is in every way a first-class job..." Letter measures 10.75 x 8.25 inches wide, is lightly toned and soiled w. some crinkling, fold lines and a brief pencil notation on verso. Very Good. Item #5294

"Born at London, England in 1880, son of Richard Burbidge, he was educated at Maidenhead College before commencing a career In wholesale merchandise at London in 1897. For nine years, he was connected with the executive of Harrods Limited in London. He came to Winnipeg in 1910 where he was saleshops commissioner for the Hudson’s Bay Company." Manitoba Historical Society : Memorable Manitobians. An interesting letter, signifying the start of a new era for the west coast operations of the now defunct retail giant.
