A 1906 telegram from Lillian Wald in New York, offering her wedding day congratulations to Mrs. Constance Herreshoff (nee Mills) who taught at the 3rd St. Music Settlement in New York and later became a music critic in San Diego. Wald committed her life to working for social change through better standards in public health, child welfare, nursing and women's rights. A fine example of her insight can be found on page 337 of her 1934 book "Windows on Henry Street" wherein Wald states “We have found, that the things which make men alike are finer and stronger than the things which make them different..."
