[Alice in Wonderland] Alice Knows the Answers - 1934 Cunard European Cruise Brochure

[London?] Printed in USA: Cunard, 1934. Paperback. For the Alice or Cruise Ship collection that has almost [!] everything, is this clever and artistic publication, created to help breathe some life back into the cruise ship industry during the depths of The Great Depression. Saddle stapled folding brochure, printed in four colors and measuring 9 x 16 inches wide when fully opened, folding to a 9 x 4 inch wide brochure for mailing. Using some well known story book characters from Alice in Wonderland, the ad men from Cunard apply here a novel approach, by combining the common sense finances of a mathematics don like Lewis Carroll, with some of his many nonsensical characters. A scarce Cunard-Alice promotional brochure, not found by us in any online database. Brochure w. "1934" in pencil at foot of terminal panel, else unmarked throughout. Fine. Item #5013

[... because of The Great Depression] in 1934, the British Government offered Cunard loans to finish Queen Mary and to build a second ship, Queen Elizabeth, on the condition that Cunard merged with the then-ailing White Star Line to form Cunard-White Star Line. Cunard owned two-thirds of the new company. Cunard purchased White Star's share in 1947; the name reverted to the Cunard Line in 1950. wiki.
