Central News, 1917. Loose Photograph. A study in both terror and bravery, this anonymous 1917 photo from the muddy battlefields of Passchendaele very clearly, speaks for itself. Eight helmeted heads are captured here, all peeking out from their mud holes during a temporary respite, and conditions look grim indeed. A silver gelatin, sepia toned photograph, measuring 6.5 x 8.5 inches wide, with some silver mirroring, creases, and the rubber backstamp "Photo Supplied / Central News" on verso. Manuscript captions verso read "Canadians holding the line at Passchendaele Nov. 1917" and "Some of our bunch : Canadian 86th Machine Gun Battalion" and "7 T.C."[?]. Good. Item #4520
