Castlegar, BC: c 1960. Loose Photos. Two gelatin silver photos of Chinese Canadians working in the Marlane Grill in Castlegar, BC, circa 1960. We tentatively identify one of the gentlemen as being either York Mah or Cameron Mah, who according to his June 8th, 2019 obituary in The Nelson Star "... arrived in Canada in 1959, settling first in Castlegar, BC, where he learned his culinary skills working at the Marlane Grill." One photo is a Polaroid (3.25" x 4.25") with ID of "Marlane Grill" in pencil on verso, the second photo being a 4.5" x 4.24" snap shot showing three people standing behind a till with a .36 cash sale rung in. Photos w. pencil notations verso, one w. minor creasing and two ink marks in right margin. Near Fine. Item #4509

The Marlane Grill was located in downtown Castlegar and later, changed it's name to the Hi-Lite Cafe.
