[Pictorial Maps] 1936 "Flying Clipper Ship" Flight Schedule for Pan American Airways

New York, NY: Pan American Airways System, 1936. Kenneth W. Thompson [?]. Paperback. A folding brochure, providing Pan Am's most up to date flight schedules and passenger fares effective July 15th, 1936. Interestingly, the brochure's centerfold route map "Diagram of Routes and Services" seems to appropriate the recently published (and arguably the most famous transit map of all) 1933 schematic transport map layout created by Harry Beck for the London Tube system. His iconic design is applied here by Pan Am to their 1936 flight routes, rather than to London's subway system. Saddle stapled printed paper wraps (9 inches tall), five bifoliate leaves folded twice and [mostly] printed in two columns to make a handy 36 page travel brochure, illustrated w. maps, charts and B&W photo reproductions. Minor edge wear to covers, else clean throughout. Near Fine. Item #4287

Although uncredited, the pictorial designs used on some of the maps in this brochure resemble advertising maps done by Kenneth W. Thompson for Pan Am in the 30's, i.e. "On the Routes of the Flying Clipper Ships". Ref. Hornsby, p. 201 ; Ovenden, p. 20-23.
