Two 17th century Wilkins works (each w. its own tp) bound within a circa 1800s, full leather decorative binding, having "I VILDARY" watermarked endpapers, and the heraldic bookplate of James Johnson (assumed from the 1872 date accompanying one of the penciled ownership marks). Full leather over boards, title stamped in gilt onto leather spine label, 12mo size (6-5/8 inches tall), pp. [8], 1-232, [blank], [14], 1-328, [12 - "The Table" (Index)], all edges stained red, manuscript notes to 1st (of 3) rep and very occasionally throughout text. Volume is rubbed and worn w. upper joint mostly cracked, three rubber stamps noted - to pastedowns, fep and one to text, all from a defunct university - head of spine is pulled, text block trimmed close along top edge, small chip from upper corner of 3rd rfep, and a single worm hole at foot of spine w. predation limited to a thin line about 1/2 inch long near bottom edges of last few leaves. Also noted is that the frontis has been given a "winking eye" by perhaps, a student of the writings with a good sense of humor. Good. Item #4219
