[Billy Bogan?] 19th Century Albumen Photograph of Aboriginal Australians

Australia: (c. 1890). Mounted Photograph. Group photograph of five Aboriginal Australians (four men and one woman) with a large body of water visible in the background. Paper print measures 3-7/8 x 6-1/4 inches wide, cabinet card-sized mount is 4.25 x 6.5 inches wide. Card and photo are both faded and soiled with edge wear and a 1.5 cm crack at base affecting card and paper photo. An interesting photo, possibly taken somewhere near the Australian coast. Good Only. Item #4099

All four gentlemen have full beards. One is smoking a pipe, while another carries his hat in hand and wears a military or police jacket with large brass buttons and insignia visible on the epaulettes. It is possible that the gentleman in the military/police jacket was a police tracker - or perhaps even Billy Bogan (1860-1900) who at one time worked as a police tracker at Warren on the Macquarie River.
