[East Kootenay] Three 8 x 10 Photographs of Petroglyphs Near Cranbrook, B.C.

Cranbrook, BC: Dave Kay. Three c. 1960s 8 x 10 gelatin silver photographs, all with the ink caption "TOP" at upper edges and all rubber stamped verso "Petroglyphs Near Cranbrook, B.C. These mysterious carvings on solid rock outcroppings were made by prehistoric humans presumably several thousand years ago. - Photo by Dave Kay". Three very nice, early and professional images, providing a close-up opportunity for detailed study of the Cranbrook Petroglyphs. Fine. Item #3993

Bill Barlee reports on the Cranbrook Petroglyph find on p. 11 of his Spring, 1969 Canada West magazine "These Petroglyphs or rock carvings were discovered only recently by C.R. Mills of Cranbrook. There are very few Petroglyphs in the interior of British Columbia and none that can match this magnificent display. Unfortunately, their location was and still is a poorly kept local secret with the result that, in the past year, so many of the original carvings have been destroyed by vandals that the entire group will, unless immediate protective measures are taken, disappear completely." These photos were likely taken prior to Barlee's 1969 article, as the photographer passed in 1967.
