Black leather over stiff card, 48mo (3-3/8 inches [8.7 cm] tall), pp. unpaginated [216, plus 2 blank leaves at rear], printed on watermarked paper with reckoning tables throughout, "New Stamp Duties" page dated Sept. 1st, 1815. Volume with rubs and wear to extremities, closing strap has a one inch tear near it's base with leather starting to separate near it's tip, text with some toning, a few pencil notations and faint tide lines to text block edges, lacks a front free endpaper (if indeed ever present). An uncommon Edinburgh imprint. Very Good. Item #2135

Ready Reckoners were a popular go-to calculating resource for local traders, farmers and merchants in the early 1800's as most common folk were still quite likely to be unskilled in math computation. A scarce survivor - given its intended use and this miniature format; with just one edition [also 216 pp.] published by Mundell, Doig & Stevenson, Edin. (1807) and one 1818 edition (published by Doig, Stirling & Slade, Edin.) located in OCLC, held by Trinity College Library Dublin and the National Library of Scotland. Ref. OCLC accessed 04/16.
