The very first Pan paberback, with "Made and Printed in France / by IMPRIMERIE CRETE, CORBEIL" at foot of copyright page and a similar imprint at foot of colophon having the same date. And thereby, showing Pan's out-of-country printing strategy, which was necessiated by the post-war paper shortages in the UK. "In 1947 PAN solved the problem of paper shortages from the war by reaching an agreement with the Board of Trade which allowed them to print the books in Europe... They solved the problem of transport by shipping the books from the printers to the warehouses using an ex-Royal Navy Motor Launch ML225.
