"And Was It a Silent Spring?" chronicles Sheldon, Illinois experiences with pestsides since Carson said of it "Perhaps no community has suffered more for the sake of a beetleless world..." and ends with an interview showing just how far there was yet to go in changing attitudes about pesticides. A local Indiana farmer is asked if he would like to see the pesticide planes buzzing across his fields and replies "You bet, those farmers in Illinois don't know how lucky they are!"
