Nelson, BC: R.H. Trueman, 1899. Mounted Photograph. Date of 1899 inferred from sitter's apparel and the studio stamp, which has Trueman working in Vancouver with a Revelstoke Branch studio in 1899. Title from loose paper caption. A gelatin silver print measuring 9.5 x 7.25 inches wide, mounted on photographer's heavy card measuring 15 x 12 inches wide. Photo w. some soil and toning, mount with heavy toning around edges and on verso from original wood backing and matting. Mount has "Trueman / Vancouver & Revelstoke, BC" embossed at lower left corner, verso with framer's pencil notations and loose paper caption "Nelson Oldtimer George Russel" [sp.]. Good. Item #4228
Trueman's amazing scenic photographs were reproduced many times, but a single person's portrait such as this, would have had just a small amount of copies made. A cost effective way to own an original and uncommon Trueman photograph. Ref. Camera Workers, 1858-1950.
