The Great Landslide at Frank, Alberta 1903 - Advertising Pamphlet from the Playgrounds Motel

Frank, AB: Playgrounds Motel, (c. 1950). Ephemera. A scarce piece of advertising ephemera with some interesting Kootenay content within the text. It tells of the small baby from the Leitch family whose parents were killed during the Slide. The baby (Marion Leitch) miraculously survived the slide's near-total devastation and "... later became Mrs. Lawrence McPhail and is now living in Nelson, B.C." A single printed sheet (10 x 11 inches wide) folded in half to make 4 pages with ads for the Playgrounds Motel and a history of Frank and the Slide. Pamphlet w. edge wear, folds and soil. With the 4 digit Alberta phone number, we estimate this pamphlet to be from the 1950s. Printed for and distributed onsite by the Playgrounds Motel. Good Only. Item #4199

Marion was born Dec. 29th 1900, after the death of her parents in the Frank Slide, she was raised by her aunt and uncle in Cranbrook before moving to Nelson. She later married Lawrence McPhail of Nelson in 1927. Ref. Ancestry dot ca.
