Flooding was widespread in 1948 "A flash flood causing damage estimated at more than $70,000 hit Grand Forks without warning, covering most of the North Fork land on both sides of the river and hitting hard in the Ruckle Addition. First Street and the first block on Bridge Street in the business sector, filled with water in a matter of minutes. A wall of water breaking through the old Granby dam caused the flood."
