Vancouver, BC: Forbidden City Cabaret Restaurant, n.d. Paperback. A circa 1950s, four page dinner menu from the Forbidden City Cabaret Restaurant in Vancouver's Chinatown. The restaurant was located next to what is now the Chinese Cultural Center and Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Park. Gold card folded in half w. 4 page menu saddle-stapled inside, folio (14 inches tall), cover printed in red letterpress with black pochoir or heavy silkscreen applied over top, signed "B" possibly by artist [?] in pencil at foot of "C" in "City", both inside covers with printed red text - "Introduction" and "The Forbidden City", the menu itself describes over 120 items and is printed in black ink onto apricot colored paper. Covers are smudged with some soil and expected wear, staples starting to oxidize. Very Good. Item #3811
A nice menu, reflecting both traditional and local tastes of the day with prices running as high as $1.15 for Pineapple Sweet and Sour Spareribs and $3.75 for a Fillet of Mignon.
