[Boy Scouts, Sea Scouts, Rovers] Panoramic Photograph of The First Canadian Jamboree - July 16-24, 1949 at Connaught Camp - Ottawa

Ottawa, ON: Boy Scouts of Canada, [1949]. Photograph. A great period image, capturing hundreds of Scouts, Sea Scouts, Rovers and a few scattered ladies in a "PROOF ONLY" group shot, taken at what appears to be the First Canadian Jamboree held at Connaught Camp, Ottawa, in 1949. This image has the same barracks and elevated water tank visible in the background of the [identified by small sign in front of group] 1949 Ontario Contingent group shot. Gelatin silver print, 10-1/8 inches tall x 30 inches wide and possibly a unique survivor, having "PROOF ONLY" rubber stamped 10 times in the sky and "Copyright Photo / Lingard Photographers / Ottawa" rubber stamped on verso. Lingard Studios closed in the mid-1950s (see Camera Club of Ottawa - 75 Years of Photography [1970] p.10). Photo is toned, soiled and creased with small tears, pin holes and abrasions, some hair line cracks in emulsion with vertical edges wanting to curl from being previously rolled. An uncommon survivor. Fair. Item #3479

An obviously fun-filled and well attended Jamboree, to be especially remembered by the young Scout sporting a fresh looking leg cast in the front row left.
