Columbus, OH: M. C. Lilley, 1873. Broadside. Chromolithograph broadside, 28" tall x 22" wide, with narrow tide line water stains to edges, some rippling, toning and creases, edge wear with a few closed tears and minor losses, heavy browning verso. Good. Item #2319
A virtual puzzle of 19th century fraternal imagery, this broadside is beautifully printed in multiple colors, with each color and its attendant icons representing a different degree of membership achievement within the Order of the American Odd Fellows. One example is "The Triple Links" with "F.L.T." printed within each link, a recurring symbol among American Odd Fellows, standing for "Friendship, Love and Truth" and one of three icons representing The American Odd Fellows Initiation rite. The Ohio publisher of this broadside was "... M.C. Lilley Co., which began its existence as a publisher and book bindery, but morphed into the world’s largest manufacturer and supplier of regalia, clothing and equipment that outfitted the members of the Masonic Temple, Knights of Pythias, Knights Templar and International Order of Odd Fellows of the world." Craig Lovelace/Business First, 2012. A still mostly whole survivor, and uncommon thus.
