[Homefront WW I] Purity Flour Cook Book

Toronto, ON: Western Canada Flour Mills Company Ltd., (1917). First Edition, First Printing. Paperback. Green printed card wraps with decorative florated borders, hole punched at upper corner with a brown string tie for hanging, square 8vo (8-5/8 inches [22 cm] tall), pp. (x), 158, illustrated with six full page color plates and various in-text drawings, B&W photos and a double page ad showing "The Largest Mill of The Western Canada Flour Mills Co. Ltd.", recipes throughout, the foreword states "Neither time nor expense have been spared during the two years it has taken to prepare the PURITY FLOUR COOK BOOK." and "Copyright, Canada, 1917" verso title page. Volume with tape repairs and much wear and tear to front cover, lacking terminal ad leaf (six coupons for ordering the book) and lower cover, stains, chips and notes to many pages with most interior pages in better condition than the first/last few leaves, which have taken the brunt. Also bound-in preceding the first leaf is a small printed ad on pink card which states "Use the coupons on the last page to place a copy of this valuable Kitchen Encyclopedia in the homes of your friends and acquaintances." This copy collates with the more uncommon state of the first edition (with the B&W ads for Western Canada Flour Mills verso all five color plates and the additional leaf of ads [also color recto with B&W ads verso] preceding the title page) held in the Canadian Cookbook Collection of U. of Guelph. Poor. Item #2220
