Item #2003
An uncommon set, having the crest of the 12th Geological Congress printed onto both slipcases and the front covers of each of the 13 volumes. All volumes were issued by The Geological Survey [of Canada] (with the exception of vols. 6 and 7 which, even though they form part of the special Congress set and have the Congress seal on the front covers, were issued by the Ontario Bureau of Mines). According to Ferrier, some of the special maps in these guides were not issued separately. Ref. Ferrier pp. 149-161, Whale p. 80 - who calls for 12 volumes, having vols. 6 & 7 bound as one volume, instead of the 13 volumes as issued in the Congress special edition. An illuminating set, containing everything a vacationing, scientific mind might want to know, including "... highly detailed information on the general topography, geology and (a little) botany along the main lines of the major railways of Canada ... The books were written, and the maps were drawn, by some of the best scientists then working in the country…" Whale. Extra shipping likely for this 10 pound set.
