Lovely Rose : A Ballad (Engraved Musical Score)

London: Goulding, D'Almaine, Potter & Co, n.d. Paperback. (c. 1810-20's) Engraved musical score, bifolium (13-1/4 inches tall), pp. 4, disbound with old tape reinforcement at spine fold, paper watermarked "1810" (?). Score with edge wear including small closed tears (one enters printed area), a tiny puncture, tide mark to first leaf, minor creases, light soil and the number "15" in pencil near top corner of p. 1. Small institutional and deaccession rubber stamps at foot of p. 4. No date or plate number, but with the publisher's address given as 20 Soho Square (London) & 7 Westmorland Street, Dublin, probable publication date is the 1810's or 1820's. This company started publishing most of Bishop's music in 1811 and Goulding's name was dropped by the firm before 1834. Good. Item #1835

Henry R. Bishop became the first musician to be knighted in 1842 and composed the music for the very popular "Home! Sweet Home!" along with his great many other works. Just a single copy of "Lovely Rose" found, held by the British Library, where they show an [1816] publication date. Ref. Krummel, p. 267; Fuld, p. 274.
